Kwambox speaks on why accumulating wealth was not her goal in radio
By Steve Ireri, July 14, 2025Media personality Sheila Kwamboka, alias Kwambox, has opened up about her deeply personal journey in radio, revealing that her motivation was never money but pure love for the craft.
Speaking during an interview with the Iko Nini Podcast on Monday, July 14, 2025, she said she has never viewed radio as a path to wealth, but rather as a passion she pursued wholeheartedly.
“And I am being honest; I have never looked at radio as a way to get rich. I love radio,” she said.
Kwambox recounted the emotional moment when she exited her radio role, describing her final episode as hectic and overwhelming.
She noted that, for the first time, fans witnessed her tears, highlighting just how much the platform meant to her on a personal level.
According to her, she was at a peak moment in her career, only to be thrust into a sudden and unexpected transition, a moment that mirrored the unpredictable highs and lows of life in the limelight.
“I think it is a testament that, for the first time, people saw my tears when I was leaving radio. The last episode was quite hectic. You know you are at the cusp, and then all of a sudden you are at the top, and now going down. This is what everybody works for.”

Childhood dream
Kwambox also reflected on her childhood memories of listening to the radio while riding in her mother’s car, saying it was during those early moments that she quietly dreamed of becoming a radio presenter.
Although she lacked the oratory skills and confidence back then, she held on to the dream with unwavering faith, even before realising it would one day become her reality.
Kwambox emphasised that her journey into radio was rooted in the purity of intention.
“I remember going to school and listening to the radio in my mother’s car, and I used to say that would be me one day. I did not know then, though. At that point, I did not have oratory skills. People knew I could talk, but I never had that internal mentor to understand that I was going to do that,” she said, stressing that even when she finally got the chance to work in the industry, money was never a motivator.
She revealed that in one of her past radio jobs, she went as long as three years without ever checking her salary, a testament to how disconnected she was from financial pursuits in her media path.
She added that while many people chase fame and fortune, her experience was built on passion, vision, and purpose.
“Because it was so pure for me, I never thought about the money. Even during my previous radio job, I never looked at the salary for like three years. So money has never been a factor.”
