Kwambox reveals her new path after quitting radio

Sheila Kwamboka, popularly known as Kwambox, has opened up about her journey after stepping away from radio.

Speaking during an interview on July 11, she revealed that she is now prioritising herself after nearly two decades of public life.

Kwambox recounted her long journey in the limelight. She began as a beauty queen, a title she lost under controversial circumstances, before transitioning into journalism. During her time as a reporter, she covered the post-election violence, an assignment that almost cost her her life.

Her career later expanded to include a stint on Big Brother Africa, a move that raised her profile across the continent. She then ventured into music before finally settling into a successful run in radio broadcasting.

“I feel like for the past 19 years of my life I have given it to the public. I started off as a beauty queen, and I was dethroned very maliciously. Then I did reporting again, serving the public. I almost died covering the post-election violence. Big Brother – I did it twice. I have done radio; I have done music,” Kwambox said.

Throughout these years, Kwambox said she was in constant work mode, moving from one role to another without pause, consistently serving the public with little time set aside for herself. Now, having taken a step back from the fast-paced world of mainstream media, she has shifted focus to building her own projects.

“I feel like throughout that process I have denied myselfan opportunity not to necessarily just chase. You know, when you are in carrier mode, you are like, ‘We will put that break.’ I don’t feel that way anymore. I feel like I am in a place where I have decided to slow down, and I like what I am building slowly,” Kwambox added.

One of her latest ventures is The Box Pod, a podcast she co-hosts alongside Mr Kerry and Joyce.

Quitting radio

This comes days after quitting radio, where she took to her social media to pen an emotional parting shot.

Reflecting on her last breakfast show, which aired on Tuesday, April 30, 2025, Kwambox took to Instagram to share her emotions. She said the show started off smoothly, and she maintained her usual charisma, delivering content with charm, but when it came time to say goodbye, the weight of the moment caught up with her.

“So for a moment, I thought I had everything under control; the show was going on okay, and then when it came to say goodbye, I broke down,” Kwamboka said.
