Kambua: Some years ago, I was labelled a barren woman
By Valerian Khakayi, September 3, 2025Gospel singer and media personality Kambua has yet again shared a powerful testimony of God’s faithfulness, recalling how she was once branded a barren woman before He turned her story around.
Speaking on day 2 of the gospel concert RHEMA on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, Kambua said there was a time when everywhere she went, people whispered about her inability to bear children despite being a woman who dedicated her life to singing for God.
Kambua recalled the day she received the final doctor’s report saying she could not have children, saying her heart broke into a million pieces. She added that when she took the report home in devastation, her husband told her they would keep it so that one day they could show people what the doctors had said and testify to what God had done.
“I want to testify of the goodness of God, because some years ago I was labelled as a barren woman and everywhere I went, people talked about a woman who sings for God but cannot have children,” Kambua shared.

“I remember the day I got the final doctor’s report that said that it was not going to happen, and my heart broke in a million pieces. When I took that doctor’s report home and showed my husband because I was so devastated and he said we are going to keep this one because one day we will tell people that what the doctors said and we will show them what God did.”
Kambua revealed that she waited for seven long years before experiencing motherhood. During that time, she continued to minister through her music while struggling with the pain of unanswered prayers.
After years of waiting and tears, Kambua says her story changed in God’s perfect time. She now testifies that what seemed impossible to doctors was possible with God.
“I has waited for so long, seven years and throughout my ministry, people I love your songs. I love your ministry, and you prayed with me, and God has done it, and I said God, how long am I going to wait for your promise?” she revealed.
“I took seven years of waiting, but God did.”
Conception struggles
The award-winning musician has been speaking openly about her struggles with conception, documenting her journey she endured, from infertility and miscarriage to the heartbreaking loss of her children.

Motherhood journey
Kambua’s motherhood journey not only serves as a testimony but also as encouragement to many.
The gospel singer and her pastor husband, Jackson Mathu, welcomed their first child on August 10, 2019, after seven years of childlessness in their marriage.
In 2023, Kambua shared her heartbreaking story of losing two children.
While Kambua is widely known as the mother of three children, including Nathaniel and Natalie, and her late son Malachi, she revealed for the first time that she is, in fact, a mother of four.
“Most of you know that I have three children, Nathaniel, Malachi in heaven, and Natalie with me. But the truth is, I actually have four children. This is something I have never shared with any of you before, but I think it is time to bring you into my world and tell you about two babies that I have in heaven and two that I get to take care of,” she bravely shared.
In 2019, Kambua gave birth to her firstborn, and months later, she announced she was pregnant with her secondborn and suffered a miscarriage.
Later in 2021, she shared the unfortunate news of the passing of her now third child, a newborn son named Malachi Manundu Muthiga Mathu.
In an Instagram post, she noted that the baby boy had complications, and efforts by the medics to save his life were futile.
In November 2022, the gospel singer announced that she was expecting her fourth child.
