Former Citizen Television news anchor Janet Mbugua has advised Kenyan bachelors and spinsters to take their time before getting into marriage, given the challenges the institution poses to unprepared people.
Speaking on K24 Television on Friday, October 25, Janet Mbugua said she is sure that her words of advice will be taken out of context by gossip blogs.
Her remarks come on the back of rumours that she and her husband of four years, Eddie Ndichu, are not on good terms.
When asked about her marriage by Up-Close with Betty host, Betty Kyallo, Janet Mbugua briefly said: “It has been a few years…”
“Trying to balance family, work and expectations is really hard. I always tell those who keep on saying: ‘Oh my God, I can’t wait to start a family…’ I say two things: ‘Take your time, and make sure that you are ready; because you could be good at being in love, but you do not really need to be married’. I love my family, I love where I am,” said the 35-year-old, adding: “I know that it [where I am] is not easy, and it is okay to say ‘it is not easy’.”
‘Let the speculations begin’
“And, I know, the moment you say it is not easy, I can predict what the blog posts would say… But, it is fine, they would talk about it, [and all shall pass],” said the mother-of-two.
The ex-TV host says amid the challenges she is going through in life, she has kept a small circle of friends, who urge her on, and offer advice to her when she needs it most.
“I am very strict about my circle, it is small, it is intimate, it matters; they are people who mean well for me, and those are the people I keep close to. I just refuse to be quiet about the struggles I go through. I do not go into details, just out of respect,” she said.
Janet Mbugua, who formerly worked for Capital, Pulse FM, a South African media firm, resigned from Citizen Television in April 2017 so that she could concentrate on raising her young family.
She said it took her time to arrive at the decision, but was mentally and financially prepared to exit the broadcasting industry.
“I had put my finances in order such that it could sustain me for at least two years, when I was out of work,” she said.
Janet Mbugua and Eddie Ndichu, who tied the knot in May 2017, share two children together, Baby Ethan Huru, aged 4, and Mali Mwaura aged 1.
