Githeri Man recalls moments with Uhuru Kenyatta, asks for meet-up

Martin Kamotho, also known as Githeri Man, has made a public appearance once again while recalling the generous acts of service conferred to him by the fourth President of Kenya, Uhuru Kenyatta.

While speaking on his relationship with the former Head of State, Githeri Man admitted that Uhuru has been his friend for quite some time since he was elected to office for a second term.

He made his remarks during an interview with a local YouTuber at his humble abode deep in the Kayole area of Nairobi.

In the interview, which was aired on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, he thanked the former Head of State for giving him an honourable and prestigious award during his regime.

“Uhuru is my friend; tumekaa na yeye miaka mingi na nimemjua tangu alipochaguliwa kuwa rais wa Kenya,” he said.

While further describing the moment that he received the Head of State Commendation (HSC) from Uhuru, Githeri Man admitted his relationship with Uhuru got well knitted.

Ni namfurahia alinipatia HSC, mimi kwa roho yangu naskia nimemfurahia kwa sababu hakuna pahali ashawahi niangusha,” he revealed.

Githeri Man made an appeal to Uhuru for a meet-up and catch-up.

Hata yeye akiniambia kuja, si nitaenda tu? Nitafurahi, nitasikia vizuri sana,” he appealed.

Githeri Man’s first public appearance

Notably, Kamotho was among 59 Kenyans who received the Head of State Commendation (HSC) during the 2017 Jamhuri Day celebrations.

Githeriman made his first public appearance in the limelight during the 2017 general elections, where a photo of him queuing to vote while holding a bag of githeri circulated online, attracting various audiences, including international ones.

On the election day, Kamotho, then 41, woke up at midnight so he could be among the first voters to cast his vote at the Imaara Primary School in Dandora.

However, when he arrived at the polling station on August 8, 2017, he discovered he had been outshone by a number of his neighbours who had risen up quite early as well for the democratic process; hence, the moment marked the beginning of his tedious day.

It was in the long queue and a tedious day for Kamotho that he was spotted holding a bag of githeri while still standing in the queue waiting to practise his democratic right to vote.

A photo then emerged of Mr Kamotho holding the polythene bag of githeri, munching his githeri quietly while minding his business and occasionally stretching his neck to see how far the queue had gone.
