08:55 AM

Ezekiel Mutua, Chief Executive Officer of the Music Copyright Society Of Kenya (MCSK), has committed to intercede and assist struggling musician Stivo Simple Boy just days after his wife revealed the artiste is flat broke.

Speaking to YouTuber Eve Mungai, Mutua revealed that he will take Stivo’s case personally and he will surely look for him, adding that he can’t let such a talent go to waste.

Joining the pledge to help the ‘Vijana Tuache Mihadarati’ hitmaker was Finland-based musician Bunny Asila who was in Kenya with other International artists from Norway and German on a musical tour courtesy of MCSK.

“I think for Stivo, I want to look for him I cannot lose such a talent, I will take this personally and look for him,” he said.

When asked if Kenyan music pays, Ezekiel without a doubt acknowledged that it does noting that the leaders are the ones failing the creatives.

“Music pays, only that we as leaders have let our young people down, only going for the big names, the culture, who are very difficult to work with by the way,” he noted

“For Stivo Simple Boy, tell him that we are looking for him, we have guests we can connect him with, most importantly, we are helping him locally, I am the CEO of MCSK I cannot lose such a talent” he added.

“Give him my card, let him reach out,he went further.

He further commended Bunny for his approach to helping nurture young upcoming artistes.

Ezekiel, and others helping Stivo

Bigwigs from the entertainment industry have stepped up to help Stivo Simple Boy since the management issue went viral.

One of the renowned fellow creatives is comedian Eric Omondi who donated food for his family, Mulamwah who generously donated Ksh 8,000 and offered to sign him under his record, not forgetting flamboyant businessman Gor Semelango.

Ezekiel helps Mustafa

Recently, the MCSK boss came to the rescue of Mustafa and his ailing mother who was undergoing treatment for Stage 2 Lymphoma Cancer.

Taking to his official Twitter page, Ezekiel promised to see Mustafa through his financial strains back to his feet.

I can’t wait to see this great talent back in the studio. He is not a mjengo guy. He is a gifted musician and I have committed to pay for him to join MCSK and get back to music,” he said in part.

He also revealed that he was working with lawyers to get Mustafa royalties for the works he had created throughout the years, claiming that copyright applies during and after an individual’s life.

We are also engaging lawyers to see how he can be compensated for the use of his music by broadcasters and at public events. Copyright applies throughout lifetime and 50 years after death. I am sure there are good lawyers who can help pursue this angle and help Mustafa,” he added.

Since his inception as MCSK Chief Executive Officer, Ezekiel has been promising to change the music industry and change their lives.

At KFCB, I was a regulator; so I was not there to make friends. But in my new role, I am here to fight for artists. My promise to all musicians is “pesa mfukoni”. I am here to make our artists billionaires. I will fight for artistes the same way I fought for journalists while at the Kenya Union of Journalists,” he stated during an interview.

And true to his words, he has been striving through fulfilling his promise, Colonel Mustafa, Stivo Simple Boy might just be the start of a new revolution in the music scene.
