Diamond Platinumz has finally given a response to the petition filed by Tanzanians to disqualify him from BET Awards.
Speaking with Wasafi TV, Diamond noted that everybody is entitled to their opinions however he takes pride that people have him in their minds.
” I respect everyone’s opinions, whether they like me or insult me. I’m grateful because it means they have me in their thoughts and that’s a blessing,” Diamond stated.
The father of four further noted that regardless of him not releasing new music for the last six months, the International Award still nominated him and his songs are still performing well on streaming sites.
“I have the most viewed songs on Youtube, in the ‘Swahili nation’ regardless of me not releasing new songs since last year, for me, I think thats love and I thank God ” Wasafi’s boss added.
Diamond who only released two songs in 2020 was nominated for the Best International Act prize in the upcoming BET Awards 2021.
However, days after his nomination, some of his country people were up in arms, and, in an online petition, called on BET Awards to disqualify him.
“Diamond Platnumz has failed to show basic concern and publicly express any solidarity with his fellow artists,” part of the petition read.
BET totally ignored the petition and in an Instagram post, they gave a shout-out to him as their Man Crush Monday(MCM)
“Our #MCM goes to Diamond Platnumz aka Simba! Celebrate this 2021 #BETAwards nominee by dropping a ‘💎’ in the comments below,” BET wrote.
The Tanzanian star will be battling against other African artists including Nigeria’s BurnaBoy and Wizkid.
This year’s event will be aired on Sunday, June 27 with a live show audience from Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
