Bwire’s death

Winnie Bwire, popularly known for her role in the TV show Dida, passed away on September 5, 2024, while undergoing cancer treatment in Turkey. She had been battling the disease for some time and had appealed for financial assistance shortly before her death.

“It is with heavy hearts and humble acceptance of God’s will that we announce Winfred Bwire Ndubi lost her battle to cancer on September 5, 2024, while undergoing treatment in Turkey,” the family announced.

Adding;

“We thank you all for your overwhelming support, prayers, and generous giving during her treatment. We will share more details in due course. God bless you all, Winfred Bwire Ndubi’s family.”

Battle with cancer

Winnie’s death came just weeks after she made a moving video appeal on August 15, asking for help to raise Ksh5 million for her continued treatment. In the video, she described her struggles and the emotional toll of fighting cancer.

“I’m so frustrated at how expensive health care is. Every time I have made 10 steps forward, I feel like I’m being dragged back, and I ask for strength. Thank you for praying with me,” she said.

“I have not made any posters. I just wanted to do an appeal. This journey has been turbulent. I’m so over it. I don’t mean that I’m giving up. I’m just done carrying this alone. I need your help, guys,” she added.

In a previous interview, Winnie had shared her journey with breast cancer. She revealed that she first noticed unusual signs like swelling in her hand and fatigue, but she brushed them off, thinking they were due to work stress.

“I started noticing my hand was swelling. I told Dan about it. You’re always told the signs and symptoms of breast cancer are matiti kutoa pus or kupata pimple, but those are the last symptoms. I used to get fatigued, and I would wake up telling Dan that I’m exhausted, but I just thought it was because of work,” she recalled.

Eventually, after experiencing persistent underarm pain and strange sensations during her periods, she visited a doctor. Though the first scans did not reveal much, more detailed tests, including a CT scan and a biopsy, confirmed that she had cancer.

Despite the fear and denial at the beginning, she said she began chemotherapy. She later received immense support from her family and friends, many of whom came together to fundraise for her treatment abroad.
