Brown Mauzo celebrates Harambee Stars, mocks Tanzania after Morocco defeat

Kenyan artiste Brown Mauzo has celebrated Harambee Stars despite their painful exit from the African Nations Championship.
In a post shared on Friday, August 22, 2025, Mauzo praised the national team for their efforts and, at the same time, mocked their neighbours, Tanzania, after their elimination at the hands of Morocco.
“PROUD OF YOU @harambee_stars sisi kama friends of Morocco tumefurahi,” he wrote.
Kenya and Tanzania’s exit
Kenya and Tanzania’s journey in the 2024 African Nations Championship came to an end at the quarter-final stage, marking a bittersweet conclusion for the East African co-hosts.
In Nairobi, Harambee Stars faced Madagascar in a tense clash that ended in a 1-1 draw after extra time. Kenya took the lead when defender Alphonce Omija rose highest to head home and send the packed stadium into celebration. The joy was short-lived as Madagascar equalised minutes later. Razafimaro converted from the penalty spot after a defensive mistake by the Kenyan backline.
The game remained tied through extra time, forcing a penalty shootout that saw Madagascar triumph 4-3. One missed kick proved costly for Kenya. The loss was heartbreaking for Harambee Stars, who had shown confidence and organisation throughout the tournament. Many fans had hoped the team would reach the semi-finals for the first time in history.

In Dar es Salaam, Taifa Stars also saw their dream come to an end after losing 1-0 to Morocco. The North African side, who have lifted the trophy twice, struggled to break down Tanzania’s resilient defence in the first half. Goalkeeper Yakoub Suleiman kept his side in the game with several brilliant saves.
Morocco finally broke the deadlock in the 65th minute when Oussama Lamlioui scored after a clever pass from Youssef Belammari. Tanzania pushed forward in search of an equaliser but were unable to find the net. Morocco secured their place in the semi-finals while Tanzania bowed out on home soil.
Despite the defeat, Tanzania’s performance was historic. The Taifa Stars reached the quarter-finals for the first time in their history, improving on their past appearances in 2009 and 2020, where they were eliminated in the group stage. Their spirited fight earned them praise across the region.
Head coach Hemed Suleiman, popularly known as Morocco, expressed pride in his players. President Samia Suluhu Hassan had also raised hopes after promising the team a cash reward of TSh 1 billion if they went all the way to lift the trophy.
For Kenya, the exit was equally painful. Harambee Stars had displayed steady improvement, and their spirited performance against Madagascar showed they could compete at a higher level. The passionate home support at the Moi Sports Centre, Kasarani, reflected the growing belief in the team.
With Kenya and Tanzania eliminated, Uganda is now the only East African nation left in the competition.
