Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino met with US-based Grammy Award-winning Kenyan rapper Mark Makora Mbogo, popularly known as KayCyy, during the artist’s visit to Kenya.

Sharing a video of their encounter on his social media pages on Friday, November 21, 2025, Babu Owino expressed his enthusiasm about their encounter. He described the meeting as a significant moment for the city, emphasising the need for influential figures like KayCyy to contribute to its growth.

The lawmaker also acknowledged the rapper’s impressive achievements in the music industry, noting that his work has been closely followed and celebrated.

Babu also discussed his political ambitions, stating that he plans to run for governor in 2027 and later aim for the presidency, calling for support from the young artiste.

“We are so happy to see you. We need you here in this country to help us grow the city. We are giving you the keys to the city. In 2027, we are taking the governor, and then the presidency after.”

Adding;

“We are happy with what you are doing with the music; we follow you closely.”

17 years away

KayCyy made his return to Kenya after spending 17 years abroad. The artiste arrived in the country on Tuesday, November 18, 2025. His visit aimed to reconnect with family, fans, and the local music scene.

Upon arrival, KayCyy was welcomed with a colourful celebration featuring Maasai traditional dancers. He was accompanied by his family and friends, marking a joyful homecoming that highlighted Kenyan culture.

Speaking to the press at the airport shortly after landing, KayCyy described his feelings of excitement and nervousness.

“This is a real homecoming. I feel like I’m back home, feet on the ground. I’m dancing with my people, Kenya to the world.”

Adding;

“I was nervous and excited because it had been so long, it had been like 17 years. I have not been at home, and just to be back is like you have just left, going to America for the first time, and you are now coming back.”

The award-winning rapper also revealed that he is working on a new album with several Kenyan artistes.

“I’m working on a new album. Shout out to Bein and everyone that is helping me out, the whole crew of Sauti Sol, am definitely ready for it, it is coming out soon, and that is why I had to come back home to make it all make sense,” he said.

He promised fans that Kenyan music is about to reach new heights.

“Kenyan music is about to go to the next level.”

KayCyy also confirmed that he will perform at several shows during the festive season.

“I have a lot of shows coming up around December.”

Born in Keroka, Kisii County, KayCyy moved with his family to the United States at an early age. His genre-blending style merges hip-hop, R&B, and global rhythms. Over the years, he has collaborated with top international artists and producers, including Kanye West, Swedish House Mafia, A$AP Rocky, Travis Scott, Chloe Bailey, and Gesaffelstein.
