Karen Nyamu attracted the wrath of Nairobi party animals after she threatened to put to an end the Aluta nonstop partying in the capital.
Aluta is the kind of partying in nightclubs that starts at dusk on Thursdays and goes all the way to Monday dawn.
In a post on social media on Monday, November 27, 2028, Karen Nyamu sounded the alarm on the dangers of Aluta to the youth as she issued a warning to club owners.
“Kuna kitu inaharibu vijana hapa Nairobi inaitwa ALUTA. Hio form me ndio nitaichoma. Club owners this is your notice,” Karen Nyamu wrote.
The UDA-nominated senator came under scathing attack from octane-fueled revellers who indulge in Aluta clubbing.
Some critics hit Karen Nyamu below the belt, telling her that she was shooting herself in the foot by trying to outlaw Aluta when her sweetheart Mugithi singer Samidoh would be affected by the ban.
“Izimwe alafu samido aende ku perfom wapi? (When Aluta is banned where will Samidoh perform?)” Brenda Bilongo told Karen Nyamu.
In a quick rejoinder, Karen Nyamu told off Brenda, sarcastically asking her if Samidoh performs in Aluta gigs.
“@brendabilongo kwani yy huperform aluta?” Karen Nyamu fired back.
Legislation
Speaking to a local radio station, Karen Nyamu addressed the criticisms she faced after she threatened to ban Aluta.
She said most people throwing stones at her don’t understand how Aluta is adversely affecting the young generation which she said will be lost if clubs are not reined in.
“First of all kuna watu wengi ata hawaelewi Aluta ni nini kwa sababu hao wamezoea kuenda ile sherehe ya kawaida unapiga sherehe mbaka 4 am, 5 am, 6 am unaenda home. Lakini kuna watu wale saa zile wee unaenda home hao hawaendi home. Kutoka Friday the same clothes ndo wamevaa, Saturday, Sunday mbaka Monday asubuhi hao wako sherehe. Alafu ukiona hizo picha ama videos za Aluta ni madem wayoung, vijana wayoung watu mbaka wanakaa ile age bracket wako kwa wazazi wao. Hio ni ile age foundation yao ndo inakua laid sahi so kuwaexpose kwa hio sherehe hivyo a whole generation,” Karen Nyamu said.
“Mi na advocate tu bars zifungwe 6 am na zifunguliwe 4 am,” she added.
Karen Nyamu further said that she plans to table a bill on the floor of the Senate that will regulate uncontrolled clubbing that is Aluta.
Nyamu noted that she will introduce the bill as early as Wednesday or Thursday.
“Kama senator nataka kuleta statement kwa House ya Senate either kesho ama Thursday ntawajulisha,” Karen Nyamu said.
“So kama naweza save a generation why not ju nko na hio platform, nko na hio position kwa senate. Kama nawaza save a generation ni sawa. Hatukatai watu wapige sherehe, hatukatai watu wapige drink yao, lakini hizo scenes tumeona ya watoi wetu wakikunywa pombe Sunday asubuhi, saa moja, saa mbili, saa tatu asubuhi saa zile wanafaa wakue church. Wadem wanatekiwa advantage, kuna vitu mob sana zinaendelea huko staki kuongelea hapa kwa redio,” she added.
