Following weeks of making headlines for alleged racism, the leaked clip of the Alchemist bar has been ruled out as ‘not racist’.

This is according to a statement online where the tweep who shared the viral video, identified as Emmanuel Murgor, changed his tune and retracted his initial claims after reviewing the full footage.

“The clip I shared made an impression that there was racial bias practised at the Alchemist, that was never the case. After reviewing the full footage I can attest the bar embraces diversity,” part of the statement read.

Henceforth, Emmanuel says his legal team has come to a unanimous agreement that neither of the party will press charges of any kind.

“My legal team and Alchemist have agreed that the establishment will not press charges of any nature,” the statement further read.

On their part, the establishment wrote: “It’s been a crazy week, to say the least, We met with Emmanuel and his advocate to discuss the incident on May 20. He has acknowledged that the clip shared was misleading to the public and was not representative of what happened that evening and what we stand for.”

The video attracted social media outrage with netizens calling for its closure which was eventually ordered by City Governor Anne Kananu to allow investigations.

In the video, the bar was faulted for seemingly perpetuating racism against black people by having white and Indian revellers in one queue and blacks in another as they waited in line to get into the bar.

In their response, however, the bar responded to the claims and denied the accusations.

The joint’s management explained that the premise only has one entrance and noted that there were a handful of black people in a queue which had a majority of white and Indian revellers.
