Mumias East Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Salasya was filled with joy and surprise when he attended the Kamba Festival at the Carnivore Grounds in Nairobi on Saturday, September 14, 2024.

The event turned out to be a memorable one for the youthful lawmaker, as he was warmly embraced by his Akamba fans, leaving him with an emotional experience he would not soon forget.

In a heartfelt expression of gratitude, MP Salasya took to his social media platforms to show his elation, wondering how he was loved by the Akamba community that much.

Salasya further stated that he had just realised that he was a brand.

“Kumbe Wakamba wananipenda hivi…what a beautiful moment for me at Carnivore…kumbe mimi ni brand hivi,” Salasya said in a statement shared via his official Instagram account.

The MP was evidently overwhelmed by the unexpected outpouring of love and support from his Akamba supporters, a moment that resonated deeply with him.

The Kamba festival, which celebrates the vibrant culture and traditions of the Akamba community, brought together people from various regions.

Various celebrities from the community graced the second edition of the event, which was hosted by content creators Nicholas Kioko and Rick Be.

Salasya was invited on the stage by comedian Vincent Mwasia Mutua, known professionally as Chipukeezy, who refers to the lawmaker as his twin.

Known for his charismatic personality and grassroots connection, Salasya received a hero’s welcome at the event, as fans cheered him when he took the microphone to speak.

The fans’ cheering reaffirmed his growing popularity beyond his native constituency.

Kambas invited

He assured the fans of his love and urged them to turn up in large numbers should he organise a similar event for the Luhya community, where he comes from.

Mnajua mimi nawapenda sana…na nimesema kwa sababu tumekuja hapa, nitapanga yetu pia ya Mulembe huko Western. Mtakuja ama hamtakuja?” Salasya asked the fans.

Salasya boasting about him being a brand comes days after he stated that he would start charging his fans for photos and videography.

Salasya, who is becoming a well-known figure in Kenyan politics for his vibrant personality and close interactions with the public, explained that this is more than just a money-making venture.

For him, it’s a way to manage the overwhelming demand from his supporters, who frequently request to capture moments with him.

Taking to his official Instagram account on the evening of Monday, September 2, 2024, Salasya shared a photo he had captured with three of his fans and stated that he was on the job by taking that photo.

“I charge 100 shillings to take a photo with you, video ni 150 bob ….hapa nilikuwa mboka. In a day I make photos with at least 50 persons and 10 videos za kipindi hehe,” Salasya stated.
