State House MC and popular comedian Chipukeezy has declared his stand about the anti-government protests that have been happening in the country over the past few weeks.

Sharing on an Instagram post on July 3, 2024, Chipukeezy expressed his concerns adding that the country was headed in the wrong direction.

Further, Chipukeezy cautioned that the nation would suffer great losses if certain issues were not changed. He stressed the need for constructive engagement, rather than destructive protests.

“Our country is heading in a dangerous direction, and we stand to lose a lot if we don’t change course. We can’t build a nation by tearing it down. It’s contradictory to say we are fighting for the youth while harming their businesses and risking their lives.

“When young people raised concerns about the finance bill, the president withdrew it. This shows that constructive engagement works,” Chipukeezy remarked.

The entertainer urged the youth to use the right channels to agitate for change in governance instead of causing chaos.

Anti-finance bill protests

Unlike his fellow celebrities and entertainers, Chipukeezy remained in the dark regarding the planned demonstrations, until his last stance, where he stated that he would not mind remaining unpopular so long as he spoke the truth.

“Protests are creating a good platform for chaos and hooliganism whether it’s organic or paid, and it’s leading us down a destructive path. I am willing to be unpopular to speak my truth.

Real change comes through proper channels. If you think the country is on the wrong track, get involved either by running for office or by voting for someone who will represent your views effectively when that time comes,” Chipukeezy added.

Chipukeezy’s comments stirred up anger among his fans, who responded with bitter comments to his post. Kenyans replied the same way they have to other celebrities who appeared to support the government.

The close association between him and President William Ruto led many fans to accuse him of bias, believing that a relationship with him had influenced his stance on the protests.

“I wish you continued keeping quiet the way you’ve been quiet all along,” One fan @effykaydesiree wrote.

@chipukeezy my friend when diplomacy fails force applies.#freedom Na usiwai ongea tena nyamaza tu vile ulikua umenyamaza,”  Another fan @jimmytruth_ added.
