Woman arrested after being found repackaging 25,300 litres of expired cooking oil

Detectives on Sunday impounded 25, 300 litres of expired cooking oil being repackaged in Changamwe, Mombasa County.

The multi-agency team raided the godown where they also arrested the owner of the expired consignment, 50-year-old Deborah Taabu.

“The Intelligence-led operation that was conducted at Denco Godown within Changamwe Sub-County also resulted in the arrest of 50-year-old Deborah Taabu, who is the owner of the consignment that was to be repackaged and sold to unsuspecting members of the public,” said DCI on their Twitter handle.

The DCI warned unscrupulous traders bent on supplying the public with toxic products that their days are numbered.

During the raid, the police seized 1,260 expired 20-litre jerry cans of Miltra cooking oil.

The raid was led by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations and comprised officers from Kenya Revenue Authority, Kenya Bureau of Standards and the Anti-Counterfeit Authority.

DCI said that the arrested suspects will be arraigned on Monday.
