President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday, February 19 said he can freely tour constituencies represented by Opposition leaders because the 2018 Handshake between him and ODM leader Raila Odinga created an environment of trust and peace respected by leaders within and outside Government.

Speaking in Kayole after launching a hospital commissioned by the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS), the President said it was because of the Handshake that he comfortably toured Kayole, and was not subjected to any hostility.

“Were it not for the Handshake, [Embakasi East MP] Babu Owino would have organised his group to stone my motorcade today,” said the President.

The Head of State reiterated remarks he had made previously that the Handshake deal between him and the Opposition chief was not aimed at hoisting Odinga to presidency.

President Kenyatta urged Kayole residents to throw their support behind Building Bridges Initiative (BBI), saying the Constitutional amendment is needed to heal the perennial post-election hostilities often witnessed in Kenya.

The president further urged the residents to have trust in his capability to deliver on projects he had promised, saying the constituents shouldn’t be swayed by people, who are “only making promises, yet there is nothing they have done to suggest they would execute the promises”.
