Wednesday blackout to affect parts of 6 counties

Kenya Power has announced a planned electricity outage that will affect parts of six counties on Wednesday, August 13, 2025.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, the utility company attributed the planned outage to routine network maintenance works aimed at improving the reliability of the power supply.

In Makueni County, the outage will affect areas around Kola, including Kilala, Ukiah, Mukuyuni, Nziu, Kyambalasi, Utangwa Kivani and Kali, together with nearby communities. Power will be switched off from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

In the North Rift region, parts of Trans Nzoia County will also be affected. The blackout will cover Milimani and Shimo La Tewa areas, including Kitale Hospital, Crystal Cottage Hospital, Gallie, Natembeya Foundation, Milimani Booster and surrounding neighbourhoods, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Parts of Nandi County, including Ollesos Technical, Timbilil and Cheptuing’eny, will experience a similar outage from 9:30 am to 5:00 pm.

In the Mt. Kenya region, Nyeri County will have a power interruption in the Gatondo area, affecting Gatondo Market, Itundu, Gachuguina, Kiawaiguru, Muthuthiini and surrounding residents between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm. In Embu County, residents of Koimugo, Sunmoon, Jerusalem, Njukiri Primary, Kenya Forest Njukiri, Kiangatunyi and nearby areas will be without power from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.

Kitui County will also be affected, with power interruptions expected in Kathungi, Silanga, Kyeni, Masimba, Kanyangii, Kanyongonyo and Kangukangu between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm.

Kitui County will also be affected, with Kathungi, Silanga, Kyeni, Masimba, Kanyangii, Kanyongonyo, Kangukangu and adjacent customers scheduled for an outage from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm,” Kenya Power announced.
