Uhuru bans movement in and out of Nairobi, coastal strip as Covid-19 cases rise

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Monday said that we must prepare for the worst as he announced that 16 new coronavirus cases had been confirmed.

The number of those who have tested positive for coronavirus in Kenya now stands at 158.

“Kenyans should wear masks while in public places,” said President Kenyatta, adding that we are at war.

The Head of State lauded the Ministry of Health’s stellar performance in its response efforts.

Further, President Kenyatta said that the Health CS has declared that Nairobi, Kwale and Kilifi counties as Covid-19 infected areas.

Hence, the National Security Council has sanctioned new additional measures.

One, there shall be the cessation of all movement by road, rail or air in and out of in Nairobi, Kwale, Kilifi and Mombasa counties.

Two, the cessation of movement within the Nairobi metropolitian area for 21 days with effect from 7pm, Monday, April 6.

Three, the cessation of movement within Kilifi, Kwale and Mombasa counties effective on Wednesday, April 8.

Movement in and out of the coastal strip shall be limited.

Four, the Nairobi designated area is recognized as part of Nairobi, part of Kiambu town in Ndenderu, up to Athi River including Katani, part of Kajiado including Kitengela.

Any person, motorcycles, scooters, vehicles, vessels, railway wagons or aircraft shall not be allowed in the Nairobi Metropolitan area, Kilifi, Kwale or in Mombasa.

But the movement of food-carrying vehicles shall be permitted, President Kenyatta said.
