Waruguru slams govt over police action during Saba Saba

Former Laikipia Woman Representative Cate Waruguru has slammed the Kenya Kwanza over how the security officers handled protesters during Saba Saba Day.
Taking to her official Facebook account, the vocal politician claimed that the officers used live bullets on unarmed Kenyans. Waruguru, who is a close ally of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, further claimed that the police are now carrying out a shoot-to-kill order.
“Why use live bullets on unarmed Kenyans? A shoot-to-kill order is in motion, this is not law enforcement, it’s a war on the people,” Cate Waruguru posted on Facebook
This comes as a section of Kenyans exposed several bullets picked up in the aftermath of the incidents of the Saba Saba demos. As such, Waruguru, a harsh critic of the Kenya Kwanza government, stated that these events portray war on the people but are presented as law enforcement.
A huge number of Kenyans flocked to several parts of the country protesting against the Kenya Kwanza government.
However, their pursuit to traverse areas such as Nairobi CBD was in vain as police officers closed all the major roads. A section of officers were forced to use teargas to disperse any gathering near the major towns.
Roadblocks were also erected on major roads, leaving hundreds of travellers and city commuters stranded. The Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) remained deserted for the better part of the day as police made patrols to quell any form of protest.
Shoot-to-Kill orders
Cate Waruguru’s sentiments come weeks after Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen caused an uproar following his shoot-to-kill orders to police officers against Kenyans who attack a police station.
Murkomen pointed out that the police officers have the mandate to protect themselves from Kenyans who threaten their lives. Murkomen later came out to clear the air, insisting that he was misquoted.
Nonetheless, his remarks were termed reckless, and he was forced to deny allegations that he instructed the men in blue to shoot to kill demonstrators.
On the other hand, netizens among politicians from the opposition camp claimed that the violent scenes witnessed during the Gen Z demos were stage-managed by the government to paint the young people as criminals and hence justify a crackdown.
