Member of Parliament (MP) for Githunguri Constituency, Gathoni Wamuchomba, has weighed in on President William Ruto’s empowerment event held on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at State House in Nairobi.

Taking to her official X account, on Sunday, August 10, 2025, Wamuchomba criticised how Ruto held his youth empowerment programme.

The vocal lawmaker said that the president could have hosted local industrial entrepreneurs and supported them to create employment opportunities for the youths instead of inviting jobless youths and giving them tokenism.

“Flooding jobless youths in the statehouse to give them 2k and a one-off meal is tokenism. Instead, flood the house with winemakers and entrepreneurs asking you to open the industry to employ the youths using bananas, pineapples, mangoes that are currently going to waste (post-harvest losses),” she said.

“Flood the statehouse with scrape metals dealers; they will advise you on how to make use of your metal waste to household goods that will employ thousands and support their cottage industry! Flood statehouse with the Shanga women who can employ thousands of youths if you listened to adopt shanga industry out punitive of taxes.”

She further suggested that Ruto should employ jobless Nairobi residents to clean the streets from 6 p.m. until midnight, and also allow small traders to operate in the streets during the same hours.

“Instead of hosting them in the statehouse for a meal ,open the streets of Nairobi daily from 6pm to Midnight for micro-trade and employ thousands to clean up after 12am,” she said.

“You will REVAMP the economy and sustain the empowerment. This, I will do one day when I will be Madam President.”
