Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa has vowed to increase pressure on President William Ruto to resign after a spate of reported abductions.
Wamalwa, who was among the leaders who were in Kanyuambora, Mbeere North Sub-county, Embu County, to bid farewell to Eric Mutugi Kivuti, son to Senator Lenny Kivuti, said the buck stops at President Ruto’s back as he is the Head of State.
The former Cabinet Secretary also called for the release of Billy Mwangi, who is from Embu and among those reported to be missing.
“My thoughts and prayers are with the family and the people of Embu, who have also borne the brunt of abductions and have led the nation in protests against this tyranny and in calling for the release of Billy Mwangi and all abductees. Called upon the people of Embu County to be ready to lead the other counties in countrywide protests on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, if @IG_NPS fails to produce Billy Mwangi and his comrades in court as directed.
“The buck stops with President William Ruto and his broad-based government, whose cardinal duty is to protect life and property, failing which they have no business calling themselves a government, and we will be calling on the resignation of not just @IG_NPS, as we did with (Japheth) Koome (former Police IG), and nothing changed, but on Ruto himself,” Wamalwa said in a statement on X on Friday, January 3, 2024.
He also called on pro-government leaders to stop linking opposition figures with the abductions.
“In the meantime they should stop trivializing the abduction issue by cheap propaganda accusing Rigathi Gachagua and the opposition or even the families of abducting their own children!” he concluded.
The issue of abductions has dominated national headlines, and even the leaders who attended the burial of Moses Wetang’ula’s mother touched on the issue.
