Former Roots Party deputy presidential candidate Justina Wamae has come out guns blazing against Nyandarua Senator John Methu, accusing him of fanning divisive politics through his remarks on President William Ruto and the Mt Kenya region.

In a statement on X on August 23, 2025, Wamae said it was unfortunate that a youthful leader like Methu would echo sentiments that only serve to deepen disunity and entrench a sense of entitlement in politics.

“Say what you may… Senator, you are too young to be pushing this agenda. This is what those old people who have messed up this country say. Very sad if you are among those Kenyans named as the future of this country. Kenya is doomed; the mountain is alienated and seen as entitled because of people like you,” Wamae stated.

Her comments followed Methu’s controversial statement questioning why Mt Kenya residents should remain loyal to the Kenya Kwanza government while President Ruto was launching major projects in opposition strongholds.

Mimi nataka niwaulize, nyinyi mliona last week William Ruto alikuwa Homa Bay? Methu had posed.

Loosely interpreted as:

“I want to ask you, you all saw last week, President William Ruto was in Homa Bay launching many development projects. Did those people in Homa Bay vote for him? So those people saying that we should remain in government, are they stupid or not? And if we were to remain in government, would we stay in a government that is killing people?” he posed.

Ruto in Homa Bay

His remarks come after the construction of the first student accommodation under the government’s Affordable Housing Programme commenced in Homa Bay County after President William Ruto laid the foundation stone for the Tom Mboya University Student Village.

The 2,064-bed facility is expected to address the deplorable living conditions faced by students while meeting the growing demand for safe, affordable, and quality accommodation for university learners.

Speaking during the launch on August 13, 2025, President Ruto noted that the project is the first phase of a nationwide initiative to provide 170,000 beds for students in technical training colleges, Kenya Medical Training Colleges, and universities across the country.

He added that the initiative is part of the broader Housing Fund agenda, which has already delivered 160,000 housing units in various stages of construction, alongside the development of over 400 new markets nationwide.

Wamae warned that such utterances risk painting the Mt Kenya region as selfish and intolerant, urging young leaders to focus on uniting the country and championing development instead of propagating retrogressive narratives.
