President Uhuru Kenyatta and a host of notable political figures have led Kenyans in mourning the passing on of Kenya’s third president Mwai Kibaki.
In his presidential proclamation with respect to the death of Kibaki, Uhuru eulogised the ex-Head of State as a leader who strove so hard and accomplished much for the country.
Uhuru commended the late ex-President for his dedication in his decades-long service as a public officer. The Head of State outlined several positions that Kibaki served in diligently before his assumption of power as the third President of Kenya.
“As we mourn this immeasurable loss, we recall with eternal gratitude President Kibaki’s patriotic journey in service to his country, which can be traced way back to Kenya’s fight for liberation,” Uhuru’s statement read in part.
On his part, Deputy President William Ruto eulogized Kibaki as an economist par excellence and a great leader who strove to grow the country’s economy. Ruto was joined by his Kenya Kwanza Alliance partners Moses Wetangula and Musalia Mudavadi to pay tribute to the departed ex-President.
ODM leader Raila Odinga also led Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition party leaders in paying tribute to Kibaki. Speaking at a press briefing in KICC, Nairobi, Raila stated that Kibaki is one of the freedom fighters in Kenya and as a public officer who served the nation for years with diligence, fortitude, honesty and transparency.
Odinga recounted his partnership with Kibaki when they joined forces to form the Grand Coalition government. Also speaking at the presser, Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka eulogized Kibaki as a team leader.
