Uhuru explains what he focused on during his first 2 years in office
By Paulette Mboga, November 7, 2025Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has said his main focus during his first two years in office was completing projects started by his predecessor, the late President Mwai Kibaki.
Speaking in Murang’a County on Friday, November 7, 2025, Uhuru said that when he assumed office in 2013, his priority was to continue Kibaki’s development programmes before initiating new ones.
Uhuru said leadership should be about continuity and service to citizens, not personal ambition.

“Wakati mimi nilichaguliwa mwaka wa 2013, kwa muda wa karibu miaka miwili yangu ya kwanza, mbele hata nifikirie tutaanza kufanya hii ama hii. Nilianza na shughuli kwanza ya kukamilisha yale ambyae rais ambaye alikua mbele yangu, Rais Kibaki. Kazi yangu ya kwanza ilikua kwanza kutimiza,” he said.

Focus on continuity and party unity
The former Head of State made the remarks during a Jubilee Party grassroots leaders’ meeting at Thika Greens in Murang’a County. He was joined by the party’s flag bearer, Fred Matiang’i, Secretary-General Jeremiah Kioni, and several regional leaders.
The meeting brought together Jubilee members and delegates as the party seeks to reorganise and strengthen its structures ahead of the 2027 General Election. Uhuru said completing Kibaki’s unfinished projects was part of ensuring that Kenyans benefited fully from government programs.

At the same event, Uhuru expressed confidence in Jubilee’s preparation for the next general election, saying the party was ready to face the competition ahead. “Sina shaka ushindani itakuwa wetu sote. Tumejipanga sawa, tuwe tumejiandaa kufanya uchaguzi wa kitaifa 2027,” he said.
The former president’s comments come days after Fred Matiang’i officially accepted his nomination as the Jubilee Party’s presidential candidate. The nomination was ratified by the National Executive Council (NEC) on October 30, 2025, under Uhuru’s virtual chairmanship.
Uhuru urged party members to remain united and focused, saying teamwork and shared goals would be key to Jubilee’s success. The meeting was also used to outline plans for an aggressive voter registration and membership recruitment exercise across the Mt Kenya region and other Jubilee strongholds.
