Ugandan activist Atuhaire calls out Kenyan govt over Mwangi’s arrest

By , July 20, 2025

Ugandan activist Agather Atuhaire has called out the Kenyan government over the arrest of human rights activist Boniface Mwangi.

Taking to her official X account on Sunday, July 20, 2025, Atuhaire said Mwangi is still recovering from the horrifying ordeal he suffered at the hands of Tanzanian authorities, and still, he is being frustrated by the Kenyan government.

In addition, she further termed the charges against Mwangi ridiculous, adding that the security agencies are going after those who are pointing out crimes instead of arresting the actual criminals.

“Our comrade @bonifacemwangi has been trying to recover from the ordeal he and I suffered at the hands of @SuluhuSamia and her goons in Tanzania two months ago. The rogue regime still came after him at his home, 60 km outside Nairobi, trying to relax and spend quiet time with his family,” she said.

“Illegally ransacked his house, drove him to his office in Nairobi flaunting a questionable search warrant for the office, and later placed him under arrest for very ridiculous charges! It is frustrating how our so-called security agencies protect the actual criminals and go after those who have simply pointed out their crimes!!”

Mwangi’s arrest

This comes after he was arrested on Saturday, July 19, 2025.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the arrest followed a targeted operation at Mwangi’s home. Detectives recovered two mobile phones, a laptop, and several notebooks during the initial search. Mwangi was then escorted to his office at Mageuzi Hub on Rose Avenue, Hurlingham, where police conducted a second search.

During the office operation, investigators seized nine assorted external hard drives, two additional laptops, company seals for Brave Media Ltd and Courage Ltd, a company stamp, six chequebooks, and copies of stamp duty documents. Also recovered were two unused tear gas canisters and one 7.62 mm blank round. Authorities say these items will be part of the evidence presented in court.
