William Bett, one of the drivers, said on November 1, 2025, that he was taking some mourners to Kabarnet but had been stuck on the road since 3:00 am.
He said that they were expected to pick up the body at Bomasan funeral home before heading to Baringo, but might be forced to delay.
“The situation was dire, as all the sides of the road were not moving. We just remained stationary for several hours,” he said.
Simon Ndeva, another driver from Nairobi heading to Busia, said he had been stuck since 12 am and could not understand what had caused the gridlock.

He said that no security officers responded to the situation and that they remained helpless as the night wore on.
“I was to deliver some parcels today for clients to pick up, but now I am here without any hope,” he said.
He said that traffic moved slowly for about 30 minutes until 11:00 pm, but came to a standstill at midnight.
Nakuru County police boss Emmanuel Opuru said that the gridlock was caused by a vehicle that entered the wrong lane, causing the night-long incident.
President William Ruto has said that the 160 km Rironi-Mau Summit road expansion will kick off this month to address traffic snarl-ups witnessed most of the time along the Gilgil-Weighbridge and Salgaa stretches.
