Detectives attached to Lang’ata Police Station have recovered 102 mobile phones from a suspect, living in Kibra, believed to be working with robbers.
In a raid that was conducted on Friday, three suspects were arrested in connection to a spate of robberies that DCI say target motorists along the Southern By-pass.
The main suspect Winjira Unganyi, a mobile phone proprietor of Basement Crew shop within Lindi in Kibra is among the arrested.
Unganyi is alleged to be in the business of acquiring mobile phones from robbers and selling them to locals at cheap prices.
A 35-year-old Alex Mboya, who was found in possession of a victim’s phone, was also arrested together with a 16-year-old minor studying at a secondary school in Langata.
Their arrest followed detailed analysis and investigations of the robberies, with detectives employing cyber and forensic analysis techniques, to identify the beneficiaries of the crimes.
The DCI unit says it is determined to restore order along the Southern Bypass which has become a hotspot for criminal activities.
In recent time five suspects have been arrested and arraigned. They faced robbery with violence charges, DCI says.
A week ago, 2 suspects were shot dead along the Southern Bypass after they tried to attack police officers who disguised themselves as joggers.
The two were said to be part of a wider syndicate that is terrorizing motorists along the bypass.
The three suspects arrested in connection to mobile phones theft will be arraigned on Monday.
