Sudi fumes after Gachagua’s economic utterances while in the USA

By , July 20, 2025

Kapsaret MP Oscar Sudi has launched a fierce attack against former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua following controversial remarks he made while on a trip to the United States.

Gachagua had urged the Mt Kenya diaspora community to withhold remitting money back home as they had done in the past, advising them to wait until his team returns to power.

In a video posted on his social media platforms on Sunday, July 20, 2025, Sudi dismissed Gachagua’s comments as reckless and unpatriotic. He urged the Mt Kenya community to ignore the former deputy president’s advice, insisting that such statements only serve to divide the country and sabotage the economy.

The outspoken legislator went on to criticise Gachagua’s conduct, suggesting that the former DP was no longer fit to provide leadership or economic direction. He questioned the former DP’s state of mind and advised his supporters to distance themselves from what he termed as tribal-driven rhetoric.

Sudi also defended the Mt Kenya region’s place in the current government, stating that the community remains an integral part of the administration and should not be misled into isolating itself from national progress.

“Wamunyoro’s verbal diarrhoea reveals a mind ravaged by mental turmoil, his mental state clearly unstable. Your time’s up, Mr Tribal Chief!” Sudi said.

Gachagua’s remarks

This comes after Gachagua’s remarks on the role of the Mt Kenya community in Kenya’s economic engine, coupled with warnings about disunity and its consequences.

The DCP leader argued that the community is the driver of the Kenyan economy.

“When you destroy this community, you destroy Kenya.” He lamented the economic slowdown, which he attributed to President William Ruto’s perceived “war on the mountain”, leading to a sharp decline in investments and tax revenues.

Gachagua said, “Since William Ruto declared war on the mountain, the economy is almost collapsing because people have stopped paying taxes. People have stopped investing. They are waiting for the government, the way you are holding your money here. That is what people are doing, even ourselves.”

Gachagua also highlighted the community’s distinctive traits, their aggressiveness, enterprise, and work ethic, which have propelled their success both locally and in the diaspora.

“We do this because this community is responsible for the goals of the Kenyan economy, and that is why you are successful here, because that’s the way we were born. We are very aggressive, we are very enterprising, and we are very outgoing. And that is why we are in every town in Kenya,” he said.
