State discloses amounts SHA will pay for Cancer treatment and ICU services

The Ministry of Health has revealed the amounts that the Social Health Authority (SHA) will pay for cancer management and critical care services.
In a statement shared by Principal Secretary (PS) for Public Health and Professional Standards Mary Muthoni on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, MoH stated that an additional funding has been allocated to enhance benefits available for patients in need of cancer diagnosis and treatment services, effective April 1, 2025.
The health ministry further announced that each patient will now have access up to Ksh550,000 per year to support their treatment journey.
“Within this framework, Ksh400,000 will be available through the SHIF program, and an additional Ksh150,000 will be accessible via ECCIF.
“This expansion will enable members to receive the care and support they deserve during a challenging time,” the ministry added.

Additionally, MoH disclosed that the reimbursement for ICU/HDU services has been increased from Ksh4,480 per day to Ksh28,000 a day.
The health ministry expressed optimism that the changes underscore their commitment to ensuring access to essential healthcare services.
While reiterating their commitment to service delivery, the Aden Duale-led ministry further stated that patients willl receive the services from contracted providers to ensure the highest quality of care.
The latest comes as part of the ministry’s intensified efforts to recuperate the ailing healthcare system and enhance effectiveness of SHA.
This follows mounting criticism over the scheme poised to provide universal health care as indicated by President William Ruto.
After months of sustained criticism from members of the public and leaders from the political divide, the health ministry has continued to announce significant changes particularly in remittances aimed at revamping the scheme and providing health care access, as aligned in Ruto’s manifesto.
In the wake of the changes, MoH recently announced the amounts SHA will pay for the Linda Mama program.
Through a statement, MoH disclosed that the health scheme will pay Ksh10,000 for expectant mothers delivering normally, whereas those delivering under C-section would get a Ksh30,000 relieve through the scheme.
“The Linda Mama package under SHA is now better and bigger! Normal delivert – KES10,000, C-section – KES30,000,” MoH said at the time.
