Six suspected armed robbers believed to have violently attacked a motorist along the Southern bypass have been arrested.

The six were arrested on Wednesday after a report was filed by a victim identified as Tom Onyango.

Onyango was driving from Nakuru to Nairobi at the time the attack was meted on him and his three-year-old son few metres past the virtual weighbridge.

The six reportedly attacked Onyango and his son when they had parked their vehicle by the roadside to allow the son to respond to a call of nature.

He reported the incident at Lang’ata Police Station where a contingent of officers were assigned to trace the thugs.

A multi-agency team of officers drawn from general duty, DCI and a tracker dog from the canine unit swung into action in search of the suspected thugs who had already disappeared in the nearby forest.

DCI says the suspects were flashed out from their hideouts after the operation and they were positively identified by the victim and his son as those who had attacked them.

Many motorists have suffered at the hands of dangerously armed thugs along the Southern bypass.

Detectives believe the six arrested suspects could be part of a larger group that has specialized in targeting unsuspecting motorists plying the route with the intent of attacking them and robbing them of their valuables.

DCI now appeals to motorists who have suffered at the hands of thugs along the bypass to file a report at the Lang’ata Police Station for expeditious action to be taken.
