Police in Kisumu on Thursday arrested some two chiefs and three assistant chiefs for harassing a senior officer, K24 Digital has established.

It was alleged that the administrators had illegally erected a roadblock on the highway in a bid to enforce curfew in the lakeside city.

In the company of armed youths with crude weapons, the administrators unknowingly blocked Nyanza Regional Police Commissioner Karanja Muiruri who was in a private car in an incident that happened in Obwolo area within Kisumu County.

They instructed the police boss to come out of his car while harassing him before he identified himself.

While confirming the incident, Muiruri said he called his junior officers for help, and they never hesitated to arrest the five administrators. The youths, however, managed to disappear into thin air.

Muiruri has warned chiefs against erecting illegal roadblocks on the road in the name of enforcing curfew orders in the lakeside city stating that it is the work of the police to do that.

“We managed to arrest and detain them at Kondele Police Station awaiting disciplinary action,” he said.

Another senior officer who did not want to be quoted also confirmed the matter explaining that the five administrators were later released on free bond.

“We released them on a free bond and they recorded their statements the following day. We have since launched investigations into the matter,” he told K24 Digital.
