Safaricom announces shop closures in Nairobi, Mombasa and other key towns

Safaricom has announced the temporary closure of several of its retail shops across the country to facilitate an internal staff event.
It has urged its customers to plan accordingly in the busiest service outlets before the closing time.
In a notice released on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, Safaricom said the closure will affect shops in the Nairobi Metropolitan Area and key towns in the Mount Kenya, Coast, Eastern, and North-Eastern regions.
“Dear Customers, Please note that our Safaricom Shops in the Nairobi Metropolitan Area, Mombasa, Malindi, Diani, Machakos, Kitui, Thika, Nyeri, Nanyuki, Embu, Maua, Meru, and Garissa will be closed on Thursday, 9th October 2025, for an internal staff event,” the notice read in part.
The telecommunications giant said the early closure is intended to allow time for preparations ahead of the internal function.
Safaricom, in the notice, said the retail shops in the affected regions and places will start closing earlier than usual on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, from 11:30 am.

“Additionally, the shops in the Mount Kenya, Coast, Eastern, and North Eastern regions will begin closing earlier on Wednesday, 8th October 2025, starting from 11:30 AM, to facilitate preparations for the event,” the notice read.
Alternative support system
To minimize disruption to its customers, Safaricom has directed them to alternative support channels during the temporary closure period.
Customers are encouraged to use the Zuri Chatbot, available across the company’s digital platforms, for assistance with various services. In addition, the Safaricom Contact Centre will remain operational to handle customer inquiries.
For those who may require in-person assistance, the telecommunication firm has advised customers to visit authorized dealer outlets located near the closed retail shops. These outlets will continue offering selected services and support throughout the period.
The company has, however, not disclosed the nature of the event leading to the temporary closure of the key retail shops.
Customers are advised to complete any in-store transactions or inquiries before the early closure begins.
The shops will resume normal operation on Friday, October 10, 2025.
Safaricom has expressed regret for any inconvenience caused by the closure and thanked customers for their patience and understanding during the brief disruption.
