Ruto warns leaders: Ditch chaos, speak solutions for the youth

President William Ruto has issued a stern call to political leaders across the country, urging them to abandon divisive rhetoric and focus on solutions that uplift the nation’s youth.
The President’s remarks come against the backdrop of nationwide demonstrations and growing public discontent over the cost of living.
Speaking on Thursday, July 17, 2025, during the commissioning of the rehabilitated Bridge Savannah- Stage 17-Masimba Road that traverses Embakasi Central and Embakasi East, Ruto drew a clear line between constructive leadership and what he described as unproductive chaos.
“We have no time for violence, chaos, or ethnic divisions; we are focused on building our country,” the President declared, in what appeared to be a direct jab at political opponents fueling unrest.
As the country grapples with economic uncertainty and rising youth unemployment, Ruto sought to reframe the political conversation around practical solutions.
“Anyone who claims to have a plan for Kenya should speak to the youth and explain how they intend to create jobs,” he said.
Ruto remained adamant that his administration is steering the country in the right direction, focusing on long-term transformation rather than short-term populism.
“I have a plan. Let them come with theirs!” he emphasised.
Ruto’s comments aimed not only at opposition leaders but also at dissenting voices within his political base. His administration has been under pressure to fulfil campaign promises and address the high expectations of millions of young Kenyans.

Ruto’s appeal
On Wednesday, July 16, 2025, I appealed to leaders across the board to resist the urge to incite the youth and instead work together towards finding lasting solutions to unemployment.
His remarks come in the wake of a wave of youth-led anti-government protests that the government alleged were sponsored by a section of leaders keen on destabilising the government.
The President said the government is making intentional interventions to create job opportunities both domestically and abroad.
To date, Ruto said, the labour mobility programme has enabled 400,000 Kenyan youth to secure employment overseas in the past two years, while another 320,000 are fully engaged through the Affordable Housing Programme.
