Ruto promises to build 35 classrooms in Mathare

President William Ruto on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, promised to construct 35 classrooms for St Teresa primary and secondary schools in the Mathare constituency.
Speaking during his second day of touring Nairobi County, the head of state noted that the classrooms would go a long way in ensuring that students are well accommodated during learning sessions.
“I want to make sure that each one of you has a place to sit in class. Apart from the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), we have an additional Ksh1 billion to build more classrooms in Nairobi County,” Ruto said.
“I want to offer that I will instruct people to design the 10 classrooms after which I will personally build the 10 classrooms here at St Teresa’s Girls Secondary School,” he added.
“I will also build five additional classrooms at the St Teresa’s Primary School.”
Equip dormitory
During the tour of the schools, Ruto equally promised Ksh5 million towards equipping a girls’ dormitory at St Teresa’s Girls School.
“Nimekubaliana na yeye (Mathare MP Anthony Oluoch) akikamilisha hiyo dormitory, mimi nitahakikisha kwamba equipment ya hiyo dormitory imepatikana. Mimi nitawapatia Ksh5 million ya ku-equip hiyo dormitory na vitanda na vile vitu ambavyo vitahitajika,” Ruto promised.

(We have agreed together with Mathare MP Anthony Oluoch that once he completes the dormitory, I will donate Ksh5 million to equip it with beds and other fittings that will be required.)
20 more classrooms
Ruto also promised to build at least 20 more classrooms in the Mabatini area of Mathare, stating that the area had a significant number of children who are out of school.
He also promised to build a Technical College in the area to equip local youth with hands-on experience and technical know-how to transform their lives.
During the trip, Ruto instructed Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi to ensure the area was well covered by electricity by August 2025.
The head of state equally pledged additional promises, this time revealing his grand plan of transforming the bustling Mathare slum into a city and estate.
“Mimi nimeamua Mathare haitakuwa slum tena; hii Mathare tutabadilisha iwe city na iwe estate mahali kuna nyumba safi na kuna heshima,” Ruto said. (I have resolved that Mathare should no longer be a slum. We shall transform Mathare into a city and an estate with hygienic houses and respect.)
Ruto’s tour of Nairobi County is set to continue for the rest of the week after touring Kamukunji Constituency on Monday, March 10, 2025, where he launched several other projects and popularized his pact with ODM party leader Raila Odinga.
