Ruto: Kenya has never had a leader like me

President William Ruto has declared that no Kenyan leader before him has matched his unique blend of experience, education, and national insight.

“Kenya has never had the opportunity to be led by a person who has experience, education and knowledge about the country like me,” Ruto said.

He made the bold remarks at State House, Nairobi, on Monday, August 4, 2025, during a meeting with leaders from Tharaka-Nithi County. Ruto brushed off growing public criticism, saying he remains focused on implementing key policies.

“That is why some people are making noise, but I do not have time for that,” he stated.

Citing past leadership

The Head of State compared his strengths to those of Kenya’s founding and past presidents.

“I have the courage of Jomo (Kenyatta), the understanding of Moi, the education of Kibaki, and the plan we shared with Uhuru Kenyatta,” he said.

Ruto highlighted his political rise from humble beginnings to high office, noting that his background gives him a deep connection with ordinary Kenyans.

“I was born in the village, so I know the problems Kenyans are going through,” he said, adding, “Don’t you think I am youthful?”

Vows not to fail

Ruto said his time as a Member of Parliament for 15 years and Deputy President for a decade had prepared him to lead at the highest level.

“I have enough experience,” he said. “Why would I fail to deliver? I do not have an excuse, so I have to do the difficult job.”

He defended his administration’s performance, citing progress in key areas such as Universal Health Coverage, affordable housing, education access, and agriculture revitalisation.

“I am pleased that our decisions in these areas are paying dividends to the citizens of our country,” he added.

The president concluded by stating that Kenya can only move forward if leaders make bold, timely, and correct decisions.

“Our country will only move forward if leaders make decisions that are not only necessary and bold, but also right,” he said.
