Ruto honours KDF heroes, says their sacrifice is etched in Kenya’s conscience
President William Ruto has paid tribute to Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officers for their unwavering dedication and courage in defending the country’s sovereignty and safeguarding its citizens.
Speaking during KDF Day celebrations in Uasin Gishu County on October 14, 2025, the Head of State emphasised that every soldier who wears the Kenyan uniform represents the hopes, safety, and dignity of millions of Kenyans.

“Every KDF soldier who dons the Kenyan uniform carries the hopes, safety, and dignity of millions. We cannot forget our brave heroes and heroines who paid the ultimate price in the line of duty. Their memory is forever etched in the conscience of our Republic,” Ruto said.
He commended the men and women in uniform for their commitment to peacekeeping efforts, adding that the country’s transformation depends on their spirit of excellence.
“KDF’s story is a story of what’s possible when Kenyans choose excellence over average, service over selfishness, and courage over comfort. The transformation of our nation depends on this very spirit,” he added.

KDF Day was established following the launch of “Operation Linda Nchi” on October 14, 2011, which was a military operation in Somalia. The day is an annual tradition that serves to honour the courage, commitment, and sacrifices of Kenyan soldiers, both those who have served and those who have paid the ultimate price.
Worth noting, while KDF Day was established in 2011, it had its first observance on October 14, 2012. So far, the forces have commemorated at least 14 KDF Days marked with pomp and celebrations, which are often wrapped around various themes.
KDF recruitment
On the other hand, as the soldiers celebrate the KDF day, the 2025 Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) recruitment exercise has officially begun, offering Kenyans the chance to serve in the Army, Air Force, or Navy.

KDF has vowed to seal all corruption loopholes in the 2025 recruitment exercise.
