Ruto condoles with family of Chief Kadhi Abdulhalim

President William Ruto has condoled with the family of the late Chief Kadhi of Kenya, Sheikh Abdulhalim Hussein, who passed on in the morning of Thursday, July 10, 2025.
In a statement on Thursday, July 10, 2025, Ruto eulogised Abdulhalim as a man who devoted his life to the service of humanity and led the Muslim faithful with unwavering dedication.
“We join the Muslim community in mourning the passing of Chief Kadhi Sheikh Abdulhalim Hussein,” Ruto said.
“We pray that Allah brings comfort to his family and the entire Muslim community at this time of sorrow,” he noted.
Service to humanity
“Sheikh Abdulhalim devoted his life to the service of humanity and led the Muslim faithful with unwavering dedication, humility and wisdom. He will be remembered as a great Islamic scholar who was committed to justice.”

The remarks come after National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula mourned the late Chief Kadhi as a man of steadfast leadership in the Muslim community.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with our Muslim brothers and sisters, and with the family of the Chief Kadhi of Kenya, Sheikh Abdulhalim Hussein, who passed away early this morning. Sheikh Abdulhalim will be remembered for his steadfast leadership of the Muslim community, his humility, wisdom, and courage,” Wetang’ula stated.
Deep knowledge and humility
UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar, equally, eulogised the late Kadhi as a man of deep knowledge and humility.
“From humble beginnings in Malindi and Watamu, to graduating from Al-Azhar University in Egypt with a degree in Islamic law, and rising through the ranks to become Chief Kadhi of Kenya, Sheikh Abdulhalim’s remarkable journey is one of purpose and impact,” Omar remarked.

Sheikh Abdulhalim was appointed as Kenya’s Chief Kadhi in July 2023 after a recruitment process led by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).
He was selected from a pool of five candidates who had been shortlisted following a vacancy announcement made in April 2023.
He succeeded Sheikh Ahmed Muhdhar, who retired after serving for 12 years and attaining the age of 60.
At the time of his appointment, the JSC said: “Following deliberations and careful consideration of various candidates, JSC has appointed Hon. Athman Abdulhalim Hussein as the new Chief Kadhi of the Republic of Kenya.”
