Several Kenyans have taken to social media to celebrate two Kenyan pilots after they safely landed a Kenya Airways plane in Europe Airports amid the raging Storm Eunice.
Captain Ruth Karauri on Friday showcased her expertise in flying a KQ Boeing 789 after executing a near-perfect cross-landing at London’s Heathrow Airport.
Karauri – wife of SportPesa CEO and businessman Captain Ronald Karauri – managed to steer the Kenya Airways place at 4:01 pm as the heavy winds of Storm Eunice raged at a speed of over 70 knots.
The captain said she managed to steer the plane to the runway due to the training she received from Kenya Airways.
“This is Captain Ruth Karauri of the now-famous KQ100 at London Heathrow. With me is my first officer of the day, Ayoob Harunany. We had the pleasure of encountering storm Eunice at London Heathrow yesterday. We were landing on the Westerly Runway into Heathrow.
“The flight conditions were strong gusting winds and it was quite a bumpy ride. However, thanks to the training we have had at Kenya Airways, particularly in the simulator, prepared us for such a scenario. We used all our training expertise and skills that we have managed to learn over the years at Kenya Airways and we handled the learning expertly,” Karauri said in a video she shared online.
Following her achievement, Kenyans have taken to Twitter to congratulate her and express their adoration for her courage to land the plane amid the heavy storm in Europe.
