Raphael Tuju issues the next direction after dumping Uhuru’s Jubilee Party

By , August 25, 2025

Former Jubilee Party Secretary General Raphael Tuju, in what appears as a declaration of the next direction, has said he wants to focus on his private affairs and be able to speak things independently following his resignation as a Jubilee Party member on Wednesday, August 20, 2025.

Speaking to a local TV station on Monday, August 25, 2025, Tuju clarified that his resignation had nothing to do with pursuing elective office, particularly the Siaya gubernatorial race, as has been widely speculated.

“Raphael Tuju: I have left Jubilee for personal reasons. No hard feelings. I am free to air my opinion going forward without appearing as if I am speaking on behalf of the party.

“Like I can speak to you now, without minding the Azimio and Jubilee’s position. The same way I made a conscious decision to join Jubilee Party when ODM Party could have made me a governor is the same way I resigned,” Tuju explained.

Addressing speculation that his move was designed to prepare him for the Siaya gubernatorial race in 2027, Tuju was categorical that he has no such ambitions.

He said his resignation should not be interpreted as a political strategy but as a personal decision to step back from partisan politics.

Freedom to chart a new path

Tuju noted that leaving Jubilee would allow him to engage in national discussions without the constraints of party allegiance.

He said he intends to speak on issues affecting Kenyans as an independent voice, stressing that this flexibility was not possible while tied to a political party.

His announcement comes at a time when Jubilee Party itself is undergoing internal struggles, with factions pulling in different directions over whether to remain within Azimio or pursue a different political path.

Tuju’s exit is therefore being viewed as another blow to the once dominant party, which has struggled to maintain relevance since the departure of former President Uhuru Kenyatta from active politics.
