First Lady Rachel Ruto has paid tribute to mothers across Kenya with a heartfelt Mother’s Day message that celebrates their unconditional love, sacrifice, and spiritual strength.

In a heartfelt message shared on her social media platforms on Sunday, May 11, 2025, the First Lady described motherhood as a sacred calling defined by unconditional love, resilience, and boundless care.

“This Mother’s Day, we honour the tireless spirit of every mother whose heart finds no peace until her child feels safe and loved,” she said.

Rachel painted a deeply reflective picture of a mother’s world—one intimately tied to the well-being of her children.

She emphasised how mothers experience life through the joys and struggles of their children, living each day in quiet sacrifice and enduring hope.

“A mother’s world is beautifully intertwined with the well-being of her children; every smile, tear, and victory echoes in her soul,” she noted.

Quoting a biblical scripture, the First Lady likened a mother’s love to the Biblical definition found in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7, describing it as a love that “always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”

She went on to recognise the countless acts of love and devotion that define motherhood, noting that such dedication often goes unseen but remains deeply impactful.

“Today, we celebrate their irreplaceable gift: a love that bears all things, believes all things, and endures all things,” she added.

The First Lady concluded her message extending a message of gratitude and admiration, wishing for all mothers to feel appreciated on their special day.

“To all the mothers who give so selflessly. May you feel the boundless gratitude and admiration you so deeply deserve. Happy Mother’s Day,” she concluded.

More tributes

Her tribute joins those of other national leaders who used the occasion to recognise mothers’ immeasurable contribution to the nation’s social fabric.

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, in a statement posted on his social media pages, hailed mothers for their courage, love, and resilience.

“Happy Mother’s Day to all women who share in the creative nature of God and are mothers. On this great day and indeed all days of my life, I honour and respect you,” he wrote.

“For your resilience, energy, love, bravery, and for your sacrifice in raising us, I salute you. It takes courage and love to host human life in your bodies in the gift begotten unto you by God our Father; we pay homage to you unreservedly,” he added.

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula also paid tribute to mothers, calling them the “unsung architects of our future.”

“Today, I rise not from the Speaker’s Chair but from the depths of gratitude to honour the most graceful, enduring, and divine title on earth — Mother. Behind every strong nation stands an even stronger woman, a mother who prays in silence, sacrifices in secret, and loves with no condition,” Wetang’ula wrote in a statement posted on X on May 11, 2025.

Wetang’ula urged Kenyans to reflect on the impact of mothers in their lives and to celebrate their enduring influence.

“For your resilience, energy, love, bravery, and for your sacrifice in raising us, I salute you. It takes courage and love to host human life in your bodies in the gift begotten unto you by God our Father; we pay homage to you unreservedly,” he added.

Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, in his tribute, recognised the pivotal contribution mothers have to building strong families and secure communities.

“God created us in His likeness; a mother raises us in her fondness. Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers and maternal figures. You’re the glue that holds our society together. You are our heroes. We honour and celebrate you,” Murkomen stated.
