The government has rejected claims that the numerous development projects being implemented in Mbeere North are politically motivated to influence the Mbeere North by-election in favour of UDA candidate, insisting that they are part of its wider national development agenda aimed at improving lives across the country.

Speaking at Ndutori Village in Mumenji Ward during the launch of a rural electrification project on Saturday, October 11, 2025, Principal Secretary for Energy Alex Wachira said the government’s service delivery is uniform and not influenced by politics or elections.

He emphasised that the same level of investment is being replicated in all parts of Kenya.

“Our development programmes are not targeted at specific regions or political gains. We are connecting homes, building roads, and drilling boreholes because Kenyans everywhere deserve better services,” stated Wachira.

He revealed that Mbeere North has so far received Ksh303 million under the rural electrification initiative, with more than 150 households in Mumenji already connected to the national grid through the Last Mile Connectivity Project.

The PS urged leaders in the area to prioritise development over politics, saying government projects are designed to uplift livelihoods and empower communities.

“Development should not be politicised. When electricity reaches homes, it powers businesses, improves schools, and enhances healthcare. That is the kind of transformation our people need,” Wachira added.

Principal Secretary for Roads, Eng. Joseph Mbugua, who accompanied him, dismissed claims that the Gikuyari–Kirie Road project had been shelved.

He affirmed that the project has already been allocated funding and will kick off soon.

“There are false narratives being peddled that the Gikuyari–Kirie Road lacks funding. I want to make it clear that the project is fully financed and will commence as scheduled,” Mbugua clarified.

He noted that road construction remains a central pillar of the Kenya Kwanza government’s agenda, adding that proper infrastructure would open up markets, attract investment, and enhance connectivity throughout Mbeere North.

United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate Leonard Muthende commended the government for the ongoing projects, saying they are evidence of meaningful progress that should be safeguarded through continued cooperation with the ruling administration.

“Mbeere North is on a clear path of transformation from electrification to road and water projects. We must stand with the government to ensure this momentum continues,” said Muthende.

He also urged residents to ignore opposition propaganda, terming it “baseless politicking” meant to distract from real development gains.
