“As the nation continues to celebrate the life and legacy of one of its greatest heroes, the Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga, a true Shujaa whose courage and conviction shaped Kenya’s destiny, the spirit of endurance he championed lives on in the government projects that continue to unite and uplift our people,” Omollo stated.

He added, “The Ithookwe Stadium now stands fully complete and ready to host this year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations on Monday, 20th October. Beyond the celebrations, it will remain a home for sporting excellence, cultural expression, and youth empowerment.”

According to PS Omollo, the stadium will give young athletes opportunities to train, compete, and pursue professional careers both locally and abroad.

“It will give young athletes the chance to train, compete, and shine, unlocking doors to professional opportunities both locally and abroad,” he stated.

The new facility is also expected to boost the local economy by energising small businesses, hospitality, and transport sectors, transforming Kitui County into a hub of talent and progress.

As Kenya prepares for Mashujaa Day, the government has urged citizens to turn out in large numbers, celebrating the nation’s heroes while honouring the late Raila Odinga.

“As we honour our heroes and celebrate the spirit of nationhood, let us all turn up in large numbers at Ithookwe Stadium to mark Mashujaa Day, united in pride, peace, and patriotism,” he added.

The event will take place in accordance with the Public Holidays Act, ensuring it remains a formal national celebration. Senegal’s President Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye is expected to attend the national event as a guest of honour.
