Residents in a Kikuyu village on Tuesday morning, March 9, took to the streets to protest the death of a schoolgoing girl in an accident yesterday.

The accident occurred on Monday evening, March 8, when a matatu hit four Grade One pupils who were walking home from Nduma Primary School in Kikuyu Constituency, Kiambu County.

One of the children, a Grade One girl, died on the spot while her three colleagues sustained serious injuries.

According to eyewitnesses, the accident occurred when the matatu steering wheel locked with the driver losing control of the vehicle and plowing into the pupils.

The injured three students and the matatu driver were seriously injured and were taken to Kenyatta National Hospital.

The demonstrating residents demanded the erection of speed bumps on the Nduma-Kikuyu Road, saying two other people also died in accident earlier this week in the same stretch of the road.
