Poverty is a disease: Homeless man turns down Mosiria’s offer to leave streets

Nairobi City County Chief Environment Officer Geoffrey Mosiria narrated how he approached a homeless man in Eastleigh with an offer to help him leave the streets and secure a house.
In a statement on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, to Mosiria’s surprise, the man politely declined the offer, saying he was comfortable living on the streets and instead asked for a new pair of shoes, decent clothes, and Ksh1,000.
“Instead, he asked me to get him a new pair of shoes, decent clothes, and Ksh1,000. I kept my promise and fulfilled his request. Tonight, he sleeps a happy man with new shoes, a new suit, and a restored sense of dignity,” he stated.
Further, Mosiria reflected on the encounter, emphasising that true kindness is not about the amount of money or help one gives, but the humanity and respect shown to others.
“Sometimes, it’s not about how much money you give someone; it’s the small acts of humanity that transform lives and fulfill the deepest desires of the heart. True kindness isn’t measured by what you give, but by the dignity you help restore,” he said.

Tree man
This comes a few weeks after Mosiria shared uplifting news about a man who was once rescued while living in a tree along Jogoo Road.
Through his X handle on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, Mosiria confirmed that the man, popularly known as Mr Tree Man, has now found employment.
He said the man will begin working as a brand marketer at Sialkot Motors Ltd, a company located on Ngong Road.
Mosiria said he was overjoyed to see the man’s life change for the better.

“Finally, the man I rescued from a tree along Jogoo Road has secured a job at Sialkot Motors Ltd along Ngong Road.”
He went on to explain that the man will now start a new chapter in life as the company’s official brand marketer.
According to Mosiria, the opportunity was a great step that showed what can happen when people stand together.
“I sincerely thank Kenyans who stood with him, and I also appreciate Sialkot Motors for stepping in to give him this life-changing opportunity.”
Mosiria also directed his thanks to God, saying that it was not by his own strength but by divine guidance that he was able to help.
