The National Police Service (NPS) has launched investigations into the cause of the recent road accidents witnessed in various parts of the country.

In an official statement signed by NPS’s Director of Corporate Communication and spokesperson, Muchiri Nyaga, on Sunday, August 10, 2025, states that the police are currently working with various state agencies to conduct thorough and expeditious investigations to determine the causes of these accidents.

Additionally, the police have urged Kenyans to exercise caution and responsibility following a surge in road accidents.

The police further encouraged Kenyans to adhere to the traffic rules to prevent further loss of life, adding that road accidents cause immense suffering to the affected families.

“In the last few days, we have witnessed a spate of road accidents across the country. As a Service, we extend our condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones and wish a quick recovery to those recovering in hospitals,” the statement read.

“The National Police Service is working collaboratively with various state agencies to conduct thorough and expeditious investigations to determine the causes of these accidents. Road safety

In the statement, the police further stated that accidents are preventable only if road users adhere to the outlined traffic rules.

“The vast majority of these accidents are preventable if road users change their behaviour by avoiding speeding, dangerous overtaking, drink-driving, overloading, driver fatigue, and careless road crossing,” the statement read.

“It should be appreciated that life is not only precious but irreplaceable. To effectively prevent deaths on our roads, all stakeholders in road transport must play their rightful roles.”

Furthermore, passengers are urged to report any incident of reckless driving to NPS’s toll-free numbers.

“Let every road user be aware of the consequences of their actions and take responsibility for their own safety and that of others. Passengers are advised to report any bad or erratic driving via our toll-free numbers: 999, 911, 112, or #FichuakwaDCI (0800 722 203) or WhatsApp at 0709 570 000,” NPS advised.

“The National Police Service, alongside other stakeholders, continues to step up efforts through multi-pronged strategies, including speed monitoring of PSVs and commercial vehicles, enforcement against overloading of goods and excess passengers, cracking down on PSVs contravening licensed routes, conducting anti-drink-driving operations, removing unlawful lights on motor vehicles, verifying NTSA-issued licences, taking unroadworthy vehicles off the road, and assessing PSV Sacco compliance.”
