Peter Salasya mocks Malala after much-hyped Gachagua homecoming flops

By , August 22, 2025

Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has mocked the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala.

Through his X handle on Friday, August 22, 2025, the Mumias East lawmaker ridiculed Malala over his Wednesday remarks, where he had declared Thursday a public holiday to mark the return of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

On Wednesday, August 20, 2025, while addressing a gathering, Malala claimed that Kenyans should prepare for celebrations as Gachagua, whom he described as “the King,” was set to land back in the country.

He declared that Thursday would be a public holiday, urging Kenyans to turn out in large numbers.

“In the recent past, I’ve known William Ruto as a pathological liar, but recently, when he made the statement that Parliament is corrupt, for the first time, he said the truth.

“It would not leave here without telling you that the King, Rigathi Gachagua, is coming tomorrow. I would like to ask you to join the families and enjoy, because tomorrow is a public holiday,” Malala announced.

His remarks sparked mixed reactions online, with supporters hailing his loyalty to Gachagua, while critics dismissed the pronouncement as unrealistic and political grandstanding.

Salasya’s sarcastic response

Peter Salasya was among those who dismissed Malala’s declaration, terming it a failed attempt at political mobilisation.

Taking to his X account, Salasya threw a jibe at Malala’s statement, which failed to materialise as Thursday passed without the much-hyped holiday or large-scale celebration.

Only Gen Z have the legitimacy to call for a public holiday, not just any other chokora na makofia ya matakataka, Cleo amuka ukojoe usome hii asubuhi,” Salasya posted.

The sarcastic response drew laughter and further debate among Kenyans online, with some echoing Salasya’s criticism and others defending Malala’s passion for Gachagua.

The heated exchanges highlight the rising political tension around Rigathi Gachagua’s anticipated return, which has been branded by his loyalists as a turning point in national politics.

Yet, critics like Salasya view it as mere political theatre with little impact on the lives of ordinary Kenyans.
