A missing person who was trapped in the rubble of a collapsed building under construction in Majengo, Mombasa County, has been rescued.

The Kenya Red Cross confirmed the news in the evening, officially closing the search and rescue operation.

“The search and rescue operation in Majengo, Mombasa County has closed after one more person was rescued,” the Kenya Red Cross said in an update.

The incident occurred earlier on Tuesday, November 11, 2024, when the building, which was still under construction, suddenly gave way, injuring two people and leaving another person unaccounted for.

Emergency responders, including teams from the Kenya Red Cross, the Kenya Police, and the Mombasa County Government, immediately mobilized to the site.

According to the Kenya Red Cross, efforts by the emergency response teams finally yielded success when the last missing person was safely rescued.

Kahawa West building

This comes after a multi-storey building collapsed in Kahawa West on Sunday, October 20, 2024.

“A multi-agency response team is currently responding to a building collapse in Kahawa West, Nairobi County, where people are feared trapped. More updates to follow,” Kenya Red Cross confirmed.

Nairobi police chief Adamson Bungei stated that residents had previously been evacuated from the building.

“We are not sure if there were people still therein but I know there was an evacuation that happened. They knew it was weak,” he said.
