Nairobi County Women Representative Ether Passaris has explained what the world can learn from the 39th US President Jimmy Carter.

Carter’s death was announced by President Joe Biden on Monday, December 30, 2024 triggering reactions from leaders in Kenya and the world.

Passaris has reflected on Carter’s belief which she says can inspire individuals to pursue justice and peace.

“As we reflect on the passing of President Jimmy Carter, we honor his profound commitment to service and humanity. His belief that ‘the bond of our common humanity is stronger than the divisiveness of our fears and prejudices’ inspired countless individuals to pursue peace and justice,” Passaris wrote on X on Monday, December 30, 2024.

The legislator also said that Nairobi also benefited from the Jimmy Carter Centre’s efforts to empower communities.

“Nairobi City is one of the 36 beneficiary cities of the ‘Inform Women, Transform Lives Campaign’ through the Carter Centre, highlighting his dedication to empowering communities. I also had the honour of visiting the Center on December 12, 2023!” she added.

According to Passaris, President Carter’s legacy as a humanitarian and peacemaker will continue to inspire all, demonstrating that we each have the power to make a difference in the world.

“The world has lost a true beacon of hope and compassion.

“Let us celebrate his memory by continuing his work in alleviating suffering and fostering unity. Our thoughts and prayers are with President Carter’s family and the American people during this difficult time,” she said.

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and President William Ruto have also shared the message of condolences to the Carter family and the US.
