A section of Kenyans on Thursday morning took to social media to express their frustrations on their inability to buy power tokens through mobile money.

The Kenyans claim that they are unable to buy electricity tokens through various payment platforms including Mpesa services, a situation that has left them in the dark for over 10 hours.

@AmbMonicaJuma The fact the Kenyans are unable to buy electricity tokens for the last 10 hours may point to sabotage at Kenya Power. Please take action,” one October Sunrise tweeted.

“@Kenya Power_Care I’m trying to buy tokens through 888880 but Mpesa says the organizations are unavailable. What’s the alternative?” another social media user added.

Responding to the outcry, Kenya Power revealed that its customers are unable to buy the electricity tokens due to some technical hitch.

The power retailer said that they are currently working on the problems to restore normalcy in the pre and postpaid payment.

“We would like to inform our customers that we are experiencing a technical hitch which is affecting the prepaid token generation and postpaid bill payment.

Our team has identified the issue and restoration of normal services are currently in progress so that customers can access the affected platforms soon,” Kenya Power said in a statement.u
