Orengo mourns Siaya county govt staff killed in Delamere accident

Siaya Governor James Orengo led the county in mourning the untimely demise of Senior Driver George Were, who died in a grisly road crash at Delamere Centre on the evening of Monday, May 5, 2025.
According to Orengo, the accident occurred while Were was on official duty, driving to Naivasha with other county officials.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, Orengo mourned the loss deeply, referring to Were as a dedicated public servant who served diligently for the people of Siaya.
“It is a deeply sorrowful evening for Siaya County as we mourn the loss of one of our own, Senior Driver George Were, who was involved in a tragic road accident at Delamere Centre while on official duty en route to Naivasha,” Orengo mourned.
On behalf of the County Government of Siaya, Orengo extended heartfelt condolences to Were’s family and prayed that they find strength and comfort during this painful time.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to George’s family and pray that they find strength and comfort during this painful time,” he wrote.
The governor also wished the county’s staff who were injured in the accident a quick and full recovery, including the chief officer for education, Richard Ogeda, and Easter Okello from the Lake Region Economic Bloc (LREB), among others.
“We also wish a swift and full recovery to Chief Officer for Education Richard Ogeda, Easter Okello of LREB and all other staff members who were injured in the accident,” he added.
“Our thoughts are with all those affected by this tragedy.”
Details of the cause of the accident are yet to be determined, with the authorities to issue a comprehensive report in the near future.
